Bricolage Cafeteria Installation
We conceived and designed a 3-D installation in the dedication of Bricolage Academy’s founding board member Alan Philipson. Philipson’s common phrase “Let’s Do Lunch” was an invitational kickoff for a meeting of the minds. This entry wall to the cafeteria reminds the Bricolage community of the values we all share.

How We Think > Creative Process
Research methods and design solutions can develop over weeks, months and even years. The goal here is to show a snippet of research, concept plus style, and a significant result.
Bricolage’s students from low-income families are given the same opportunities and held to the same academic standards as other students from middle or high-income families.
Unlike other elementary schools in the region, a meaningful dynamic is at play within this socio-economic, racially, and ethnically diverse community. Creating an installation that beautifully highlighted this concept of togetherness was the goal — celebrating our similarities and differences when seated around a meal.
This mural is a joyous representation of Bricolage’s community eating together. Throughout history, no matter the dish, the geographic region, all cultures used spoons. Bee Wilson said it best: “Spoons hold up a mirror culture precisely because they are so universal. There are fork cultures, and there are chopstick cultures, but all the peoples of the world use spoons.”
